Grants of up to £50,000 are available for community led projects across England that celebrate the legacy of the Windrush generation and their descendants, while bringing people together across different ages, backgrounds and communities.
Applications can be from registered and exempt charities, CICs, CIOs, social enterprises, community benefit societies, and local authorities applying as part of a consortium bid.
The Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG), in partnership with Near Neighbours, is offering a total of £500,000 with grants of between £5,000 and £50,000
The focus in 2027 will be on bringing communities together, across different ages and ethnic backgrounds, to raise awareness, foster pride, and encourage & inspire young people, about the contribution of the Windrush generation and their descendants across the United Kingdom.
All projects should be designed with or by the Windrush community and have a positive social impact, whilst also showing a genuine commitment to encouraging engagement and participation from people of diverse backgrounds, including those beyond Windrush communities.
Projects should achieve all the following outcomes:
- Greater community cohesion: Projects should encourage communities to work together across generational and social divides.
- Have a lasting impact beyond the funding period: Projects should be designed so that they continue to have an impact after the funding period has ended.
- Increased acknowledgement of the contribution of the Windrush generation and their descendants: Projects should better enable education about the Windrush generation's contributions to society in the UK, as well as wider contributions made by their descendants to UK communities.
Projects are 'strongly encouraged' to deliver their lead event or activity on 22 June (National Windrush Day); however, if this is not possible, the lead event or activity must be held between Saturday 19 and Sunday 27 June provided there is a clear justification for the date selected.
All other events and activities must take place between 8 June 2027 and 31 July 2027.
