Grants of up to £10,000 and £100,000 are available to non-profit collaborations in London, to make physical activity and sport available to all young people and children across London.
Funding is for collaborations that bring new perspectives to challenges and use a ‘learning by doing’ approach, prototyping and testing ideas to create meaningful solutions to real-life problems. The lead applicant must be a registered not-for-profit organisation.
Go! London is a partnership between the Mayor of London, London Marathon Foundation, and Sport England, supported by London Marathon Events and London Sport. The Open Innovation Challenges are being delivered in partnership with Ashoka and Play Verto.
There are 2 open innovation challenges:
- Sport for Climate Action – Solutions that harness the energy, reach, and collective spirit of sport and physical activity to build a healthier, more sustainable future for young people and the planet. Funding is for projects that drive climate action through awareness, capacity-building, and engagement, or that enable climate-resilient participation of children and young people in physical activity.
- Reimagining Spaces for Sport and Play – Solutions that increase the availability of safe, inclusive, and affordable spaces, and make existing spaces for sport and physical activity more inclusive, welcoming, and relevant to bring in young people who were previously excluded from those spaces.
For each challenge, up to ten finalists will receive a grant of up to £10,000 and capacity-building support to refine and develop their ideas.
Three to six finalists per challenge will receive a grant of up to £100,000 to deliver their idea and create impact in their community.
Initiatives at all stages, including early, middle, and late stages, are eligible.
Sport for Climate Action:
Funding is for initiatives that build climate awareness and drive meaningful action, or those that adapt the way physical activity is delivered to be more environmentally responsible and climate resilient.
Priority will be given to initiatives that leverage the power of sports and physical activity by doing either of the following:
- Driving climate action through awareness and engagement: Community-led solutions that use sport and physical activity as a powerful platform to build climate awareness, shift attitudes, and inspire meaningful action. Ideas that build skills for climate literacy and resilience or use the collective spirit of sports and physical activity to drive community-level climate action are also welcomed.
- Enabling climate-resilient participation: Community-led solutions that help sport and physical activity adapt to the realities of climate change while also reducing their environmental impact. Ideas that embed sustainability into sport settings, enabling participants and organisers to act responsibly without compromising access, safety, or enjoyment, are encouraged.
Reimaginging Spaces for Sport and Play:
Funding is for initiatives that remove structural barriers and create new models of shared use and collaboration, so that sport and physical activity can become a shared resource that benefits young people, along with everyone in their communities.
Funding is for projects that:
- Increase the availability of safe, inclusive, and affordable spaces for sport and physical activity by adapting or re-imagining spaces that were previously not used for this purpose.
- Make existing spaces for sport and physical activity more inclusive, welcoming, and relevant to bring in young people previously excluded from those spaces.
