Portobello Road re-design proposals

Submitted by Duncan Cordy on

RBKC are looking at how to improve safety and maintain the character of the borough's most iconic street, Portobello Road.

Over the past three years, residents, traders and businesses have shared clear priorities for its future: reducing flood risk, improving safety, supporting the market and protecting the heritage that makes Portobello special.

The Council have refined plans for the first phase of improvement works, located between Chepstow Villas and Westbourne Grove. The proposals include safer junctions and crossings, better drainage to manage flooding, improved paving and lighting that respects the area’s look and feel and upgraded power supply for all market stalls. A permanent safety bollard scheme is also included which will replace the current interim barriers.

They are looking for input on their proposals to make Portobello safer, greener, more flood resilient and better for trading.
