Know Your Rights sessions

Submitted by Duncan Cordy on

Healthwatch Kensington & Chelsea offers confidential advice and signposting to inform residents of their options and how to get the help they need. They also ensure that people’s experiences about health and social care services are fed into decision-making processes to improve care.

“Know Your Rights” are a series of free sessions that Healthwatch Kensington & Chelsea run with different groups in the local community to help individuals feel more confident about navigating the complex healthcare system. The sessions last under an hour and are designed to help individuals understand their rights when accessing health and social care services.

What's covered:
•    The NHS constitution
•    Rights for groups such as migrants and carers
•    How to access GP and Dental services
•    The right to choose your healthcare provider
•    How to access NHS dental services
•    GP appointments and booking
•    What to do if something goes wrong
•    Advocacy
•    Getting help from Westminster Council

Who should attend?
Everyone is invited – from patients to caregivers and community members – interested in understanding their healthcare rights to attend these sessions.

What happens after each session?

Following each session, residents will be able to provide feedback and request additional information and support on other health-related topics that were not covered. This will inform and expand the resources provide each quarter.

Know Your Rights sessions are organised on a quarterly basis, along with a monthly feedback drop-in where residents can share their experiences with health and social care services. This helps identify local priorities and highlight issues to decision-makers.
