Are you keen to get involved in the local community of North Kensington?

Do you want to influence and engage with a vibrant local community in a committed and practical way, with the aim of improving residents’ life chances?

If your answer to these questions is yes, then a position on ClementJames’ Trustee Board could be the perfect opportunity for you!

The ClementJames Centre is an award-winning charity that empowers members of the local community to release their potential, live fulfilled lives and contribute to society, through an integrated programme of education, employment and wellbeing support in a safe and compassionate space. Since 1981, the charity has been a resource centre for marginalised local people living in Notting Dale Ward in North Kensington, one of the most deprived areas in England, where local residents face the combined challenges of inadequate housing, poor health, isolation and low income compounded in recent years by the impact of the Grenfell Tower Fire.

ClementJames’ expertise lies in listening to and understanding the evolving needs of the local community, developing provision in consultation with residents that is tailored to address their specific needs and delivers excellent outcomes with measurable impact. The charity is financially stable with a reputation for strong governance and an excellent track record in fundraising. Despite pandemic constraints, the charity has continued to raise sufficient funding (from our local authority, corporates, trusts and foundations and individual donors) to meet operating costs of around £1.2m for the recent financial year, and maintain reserves for around 6 months of running costs.

Going forward, the charity will continue to respond to growing needs of young people and adults at a time of increased uncertainty, financial hardship and obstacles to positive wellbeing. We currently have a dedicated team of experienced trustees, but we are keen to add enthusiastic and empathetic individuals who can add real value to the Board. We are looking to appoint a new trustee who may have experience in the following area:

Human Resources with a particular focus on people management, best practice on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion and GDPR responsibilities
Given our range of stakeholders, it is also vital that we remain aware of the needs of children and their families in marginalised communities, so we are keen to speak with people who may have experience of working with a family or youth charity, a housing association or a local authority. We are also keen to hear from people who are interested in being a trustee for the first time.
