Charity Film specialists The Saltways have produced a report and a set of guidelines on the use of AI-generated imagery in the charity sector.
AI-generated content risks re-enforcing harmful and inaccurate stereotypes, and create concerns around consent and privacy.
A survey carried out as part of this research found that small, or micro charities (1-10 staff) showed the highest regular use rate - unsurprising given resources are more likely to be stretched. Research also found that 94% of charity professionals have limited or no understanding of the legal requirements around AI-generated content, and that 56% of organisations using AI images don't consistently label them.
The report contains important information around legal requirements on AI, insights on usage in the charity sector, and risks of using AI.
A separate document provides guidelines on language to use and avoid in AI prompts, disclosing information when you use AI imagery, and recommended platforms and uses.
