What do you have planned for the summer?

We know a lot of local organisations are in the process of planning events for the summer. We want to know what activities you have coming up so that we can put together a programme of summer fun that local people can enjoy. If you are putting on any special events that are open to the public, maybe in celebration of the Jubilee or the Olympics why not let us know by dropping us a line at kuldip@kcsc.org.uk

Health innovation projects share learning

On 9 May representatives from 11 local voluntary organisations came together to share learning from their 3-month innovation projects that were funded by NHS Kensington & Chelsea. 12 organisations received grants of up to £5,000 to develop a new idea, test a new way of working, conduct research, and so on.

Cllr Baroness Shireen Ritchie

It is with great sadness we report the death of Councillor Baroness Ritchie, who after being ill for some time, passed away this week.

Councillor Ritchie, who has served residents in Brompton ward since 1998 will be remembered for her efforts in making life better for residents of Kensington & Chelsea, and in particular her extensive support for work with children, young people and families. She was also on the Borough Voluntary Organisations Advisory Group (BVOAG).

She will be dearly missed and our thoughts and sympathies are with her family and loved ones.

BME Health Service Uptake Event

The event will take place on 2 May from 10am to 2pm. It will cover the following health topics:

  • HIV Awareness
  • Domestic Violence video on awareness
  • Sickle Cell
  • Domestic Violence services

Golborne Festival - Get involved

This year’s Golborne Road Festival will take place on Sunday 8 July.

It will be bringing live music and entertainment, fun and games for kids and food from around the world to Golborne.

The local community is an important part of the festival and community and voluntary groups are invited to join in. If you have ideas for a fun activity, want to run an exhibition or a showcase of your work this is your chance. Stall space is available. Please get in touch.

The Budget and the Charity Sector

Yesterday's budget is making the headlines but do you know how the charitable sector fared? The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) have published a Budget Scorecard detailing what's in the budget for the sector, whiy it's important and their view on it's likely impact.

Looking for a new trustee?

The Get on Board project currently has the following candidates keen to become trustees of local organisations:

1. A businessman with experience in marketing, PR and charity fundraising
2. A lady with experience in development and human rights, management, fundraising and financial compliance.
3. A businessman who has previous experience as a Councillor with responsibility for children and young people, has an MA in Space, Place and Politics, a PhD and works as a research consultant.

Free resources available for World TB day events, 24 March

Throughout the UK, on Saturday 24 March, hundreds of individuals and organisations around the world will be holding TB awareness raising events to mark the day, in 1882, when Dr Robert Koch identified the bacteria that causes tuberculosis.

National charity TB Alert is making free resources available for community groups wanting to hold events.

New campaign for early detection of bowel cancer aims to reach over 55s

'Be Clear on Cancer' is the new national Dept of Health campaign to raise public awareness of the symptoms of bowel cancer and to encourage those with persistent symptoms to present promptly.

Although the great majority of people may not have bowel cancer, some may. By catching the cancer earlier it should be more treatable.
