New guide to senior worker / chair relations

A short summary guide that highlights some of the key factors that determine a healthy senior worker/chairperson relationship are outlined in a paper that was produced for a Manager Support Group meeting.

Steep rise in adult and child poverty predicted

A steep rise in poverty rates will see an extra 600,000 children pushed into absolute poverty in the next two years according to a new report from the Institute of Fiscal Studies.

The report predicts that 3.1 million children, 2.5m working-age parents and four million working-age adults without children will be living in absolute poverty in 2013. Median incomes will fall by around 7% in real terms, the largest three-year fall for 35 years.

Greater London Authority publish the latest borough intelligence for Kensington and Chelsea

In July the GLA published an intelligence dataset revealing the latest profile for Kensington and Chelsea.

The profile helps paint a general picture of the area by presenting a range of headline indicators in data form. It shows statistics covering demographic, economic, social and environmental datasets for Kensington and Chelsea, alongside relevant comparator areas.

KCSC has produced a shortened version of the profile but the full profile can also be downloaded.

Voluntary groups facing significant cuts around the country

Kensington and Chelsea has been placed 65th on a list of 174 local authority areas surveyed to measure the extent of voluntary and community sector funding cuts in 2011/12.

The reports authors False Economy, claim the scale of cutbacks calls into question "the role of charities as a cornerstone of the government's 'big society'".

In Kensington and Chelsea the report indicates nine organisations received substative cuts in council funding whilst five organisations saw an increase in income.

National sector survey results published for 2010

The results of the 2010 National Survey of Charities and Social Enterprises have been published by the government, following up the previous survey in 2008.

The survey asks about opportunities to influence local decisions, the availability and nature of funding and income, support and guidance, relationships with local statutory bodies, and other factors affecting organisations’ success.

The questions used in the second wave of the survey are the same as those asked previously and the results are presented side by side to offer a comparison.

Child poverty in Kensington and Chelsea

Amongst the wealth and prosperity of Kensington and Chelsea sit deep pockets of poverty and deprivation. One of our greatest concerns is the impact this has on some of the borough’s children.

We have recently produced a new briefing 'The Truth About Child Poverty' highlighting the most recent figures and outlining their consequebnces. We have also produced a map showing the disparity between levels of child poverty between the borough's poorest wards and it's most prosperous.
