Health Protection Agency - new HIV figures

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has released the annual HIV infection rate statistics.

In 2010, 91,500 people were living with HIV in the UK. One in four was undiagnosed and unaware that they have HIV.

Sir Nick Partridge, Chief Executive of Terrence Higgins Trust, said: ‘HIV rates in the UK remain dangerously high and to bring them down we all have to take responsibility for our sexual health. We can’t just rely on partners, or chance, to keep sex safe.’

African Organisational Development Seminars for HIV Providers

The African OD Programme will be running a series of seminars over the next few months.

New Equality Act guidance for charities published

The Charity Commission, the independent regulator for charities in England and Wales, has published more detailed guidance about a key section of the new equality legislation.

It has a focus on the charities' exception in the regulations - the ability of a charity to limit the group of people whom it helps - and the guidance includes how this might impact on grant makers and charities with restricted funds.

In June 2007 the commissioned report ‘Our Shared Future’ was published by the Commission on Integration and Cohesion.

The report was produced following research and a series of consultations with communities across the country and highlights the importance integration and cohesion which should no longer be purely about race, faith or other forms of group status or identity. Integration and cohesion is about how everyone can get along and achieve benefits which are mutually desirable for all.

Somali Network

The 'Somali Network' brings together Somali organisations working in Kensington & Chelsea.

Somali organisations in the borough play an important role in supporting and representing the Somali community In Kensington and Chelsea.  The Somali Network brings together some of these organisations to look at where the opportunities lie for joint work and sharing good practice.  The report ‘The Somali Diaspora in Kensington and Chelsea’ is a result of all local Somali organisations contribution to its development.
