Kensington and Chelsea Mind ore offering FREE Adult Mental Health First Aid courses, for anyone working with the local community, as part of their commitment to raise awareness and promote a better understanding of mental health problems. ADULT Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) courses are for organisations who work with people over the age of 18 from the local community.
K&C Mind believe that by giving individuals the information and skills to look after their own mental health, we can set an example for the local community.
Dates: Thursday 16th and Friday 17th January or
Thursday 6th and Friday 7th February
Time: 9.00 – 5.00pm
Venue: The Mind Centre, Office 10, 7 Thorpe Close. W10 5XL
Participants must be able to commit to attending both days between 9.00 – 5.00 otherwise they will miss out on valuable information and will not be eligible to receive the qualification. The training room will be open from 8.45am for a prompt 9.00 start.
This training is available for people working with local community or youth organisations who provide services for Kensington and Chelsea residents e.g. volunteers, community workers, youth workers or faith leaders etc. Places are limited to 2 per organisation in order that Mindcan fulfil their ambition to have qualified Mental Health First Aiders in as many organisations as possible throughout the borough.
MHFA courses are regularly evaluated, grounded in research and developed by experts, with input from people who have experienced mental ill-health. The courses are delivered by experienced, accredited MHFA trainers. Teaching methods are a mix of presentations, small group discussions and workshop activities. PLACES ARE FREE for organisations, associations and faith leaders etc. working directly with residents of Kensington and Chelsea. A manual and workbook, which accompany the course and provide activities and exercises to promote understanding and awareness for clients, are available to purchase on the day for £25.
The course is designed to give:
- An in-depth understanding of everyone’s mental health and factors that affect mental wellbeing
- Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues
- Confidence to reassure and support someone in distress
- Enhanced interpersonal skills, such a non-judgemental listening
- Knowledge to help someone with a long term mental health issue or disability to thrive
- Tools to look after your own mental wellbeing

The small print: MHFA 2 day courses are valued at £300 per delegate. Kensington and Chelsea Mind reserve the right to levy a charge of 25% of cost for cancellations of less than 48 hours’ notice and 35% for non-attendance on the day.
