In August 2019, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and the Charity Commission published new guidance for inactive charities, working with UK Community Foundations' Revitalising Trusts programme.
In October 2018, £20m was identified as dormant funds held by inactive charitable trusts in the UK, and this initiative intends to help release these monies to positively impact the sector. If this might apply to your organisation, have a look at this new guidance here.
If trustees are unsure how to proceed, they can access help to:
• transfer assets to another charity
• close down, or ‘wind up’
• change charity purposes to continue working more effectively
