Diabetes Champions wanted (voluntary)

Paddington Development Trust and Know Diabetes Champions

Diabetes Champions are looking for outstanding volunteers who are passionate about supporting people at risk of Type 2 Diabetes to join their team of Diabetes Champions. This is a very interesting role that will give volunteers a chance to make a real difference to lives of people in their community.

Diabetes Champions are local people who volunteer on a weekly basis in a GP Practice, providing one to one peer support to people identified as being at risk of Type 2 Diabetes. The aim of this support is to help people engage with activities and changes that reduce their risk of developing Diabetes. This could be through listening, helping them understand what it means to be at risk of Type 2 Diabetes, identifying barriers to lifestyle change and supporting people to set personal goals and achieve them.

This is a voluntary role and Champions would need to commit to volunteering between 3 and 6 hours per week. Champions will be supported and managed by the Diabetes Champions Project Manager.

For more information about the role, what it involves and what it means to be a Champion, please see the recruitment pack at www.pdt.org.uk/diabetes-champions

To apply for this role please send a CV and personal statement to Ana Ndekwe at ana@pdt.org.uk.

In the personal statement you should set out:

  • Why you are interested in being a Diabetes Champion
  • What is your personal experience of Diabetes
  • What makes you a good Diabetes Champion
  • Details of any second languages spoken

On receipt of your CV and personal statement, Ana will be in touch for an informal phone conversation about the role, followed by a face to face meeting.
