Chair of Trustees recruitment for Citizens Advice Kensington & Chelsea

Citizens Advice Kensington & Chelsea

Citizens Advice Kensington & Chelsea helps people resolve their legal, financial and other problems by providing information and advice, and by influencing national and regional policy makers. The charity is governed and managed locally but benefits from being a member of a large and influential national organisation.

Citizens Advice is a significant and successful part of a cohesive and vibrant voluntary sector in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. They deliver a well-established and innovative range of advice services through their offices on Portobello Road and King’s Road, and via outreach locations in hospitals, the Town Hall and HMP Wormwood Scrubs.

Demand for Citizen Advice's assistance has increased steadily in recent years. The service is free, independent, confidential and impartial. They value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination.

They are looking for an exceptional individual to chair the Board of Trustees, who will play a key role in the organisation’s future by providing, leadership and direction to the board of Trustees, and the CEO. This is a high profile, vital and very rewarding role for someone who is passionate about social justice and wants to make a difference within a diverse community stretching from Chelsea in the south to Notting Hill and North Kensington.

Citizens Advice is well supported by the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea. The service is led by an experienced and established CEO and senior management team who lead a team of 35 paid staff (including advisers, solicitors and other specialists) supported by 50 volunteers and an operating budget of around £1.5 million. Board meetings are quarterly (evening) and then will involve some sub-committee work outside of this. Most trustees balance the role with full-time work. Quarterly meetings generally take place in Kensington Town Hall or in one of their offices in the borough. Citizens Advice are looking for our new Chair to start by the end of March 2019 so interested parties should get in touch as soon as possible.
