New Look Grenfell Scrutiny, The North Kensington Drop-In Event.

New Look Grenfell Scrutiny, The North Kensington Drop-In Event.

Wednesday 21 March from 3 to 8pm at the Museum of Brands on Lancaster Road, W11 1QT.

Last month RBKC held their last, certainly until the new council is formed, Grenfell Recovery Scrutiny Committee at Notting Hill Methodist Church. The meeting was facilitated to gain from survivors of Grenfell Tower and residents of the surrounding area insight into what they required of a future "Recovery Scrutiny Committee". Some excellent ideas came out; rotating chairs selected from resident groups, more resident reps on the committee etc. Despite a degree of positivity it was unfortunate, as has happened at a number of the meetings, proceeding drew to an acrimonious close. There is extensive coverage here, with thanks to Faisal at Grenfell Speaks. The Councillors decided to go for a drop-in format where residents can turn up anytime between 3 - 8pm.

The Chair of the Committee and his colleagues have wrestled in the week since with finding an appropriate venue and time for the replacement "Drop-In" event. This has led to the council posting a date and place on the website, however they later removed it following concerns raised that the venue was inappropriate and there was a notable date clash. A new venue has now been found, though the date remains the same - causing a small overlap with the first day of the procedural hearing for The Grenfell Inquiry.

On the change of format from the Scrutiny Meeting to a drop-in format, the Council says in the statement,

"Following feedback from those that attended the most recent meetings, both the Labour and Conservative members of the Council are proposing instead to hold a drop-in event in North Kensington for people to come and raise their questions with senior staff from the Council, with the elected ward councillors present and providers of other services in response to the Grenfell fire"
