Safety works update 8th September
Last night KCSC received the following notice from MHCLG
As owners of the Grenfell Tower site, the government is responsible for managing the Grenfell Tower site safely and for appointing the necessary contractors and specialists to help us do that.
Our current on-site contractor, Wates, undertake maintenance and safety works in the Tower and on the surrounding site. Our agreement with them will be expiring in June 2021, and we are therefore starting work to select and appoint a new principal contractor.
Our new principal contractor will need to demonstrate that they have the capability and expertise to maintain the Tower, but also (should this decision be taken by the Secretary of State) to be able to develop an approach to bringing it down safely and sensitively.
Over the coming weeks we will be selecting a contractor from a government framework. There will be three parts to the contract:
1) to keep the Tower well maintained and safe
2) carrying out safety works as needed.
3) should this decision be made by Secretary of State, will develop an approach to bringing the Tower down; and, when instructed, will carry out this work.
This will involve a formal and robust government process, including due diligence checks.
We understand that whoever we bring in to look after Grenfell Tower is important to you and wanted to offer the chance for a more detailed conversation about our process, how the contractor’s work could benefit the community and the opportunity for you to participate in the procurement.
We are aiming to publish the advert for potential contractors to bid for the work at the end of this month. I’m looking to hold a meeting toward the end of this week so if you would like to attend and hear more, please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org

"The video will be hosted on YouTube and I believe the write-up will be hosted on Gov.UK on the Grenfell community updates pages. I’ve included the link to the Gov.UK pages below for reference, though the follow-up from the 27 July event are not available here as yet."
