Our Space Award

Monday, 5 August 2019 - 9:00am

The Our Space Award is a grant scheme that aims to help Londoners green their city through active community engagement and participation. It will support Londoners of all ages and backgrounds, communities and schools in improving community open spaces, making them inclusive places for all to enjoy.

In addition to the above, the Mayor of London has committed further funds for the 2019 round for turning grey, hard landscaping areas, into greener spaces where they will provide a benefit in terms of drainage. This can range from removal of hard surfaces and creating rain gardens, to the installation of Sustainable Urban Drainage planters which can collect water from drain pipes and divert it from the sewage system.

The Fund helps community groups of three or more people who meet regularly. Your group does not have to be formally arranged or constituted, but it does need to put energy and enthusiasm into your project, and your group needs to be based in London. Groundwork supports improvement projects across all types of open space – in parks, on housing estates, in town centres, in woodlands, and in school grounds.

What support is available?
There are three tiers of grants going from £500 all the way up to £5,000:

  1. Small grants of £500 up to £1,000;
  2. Standard grants of £1,000 up to £3,000; and
  3. Flagship grants of £3,000 to £5,000.

In addition to the above, groups are able to apply for an additional £5,000 for removal of hard surfaces, such as tarmac, concrete or paving.
