Health innovation projects share learning

On 9 May representatives from 11 local voluntary organisations came together to share learning from their 3-month innovation projects that were funded by NHS Kensington & Chelsea. 12 organisations received grants of up to £5,000 to develop a new idea, test a new way of working, conduct research, and so on.

BME Health Service Uptake Event

The event will take place on 2 May from 10am to 2pm. It will cover the following health topics:

  • HIV Awareness
  • Domestic Violence video on awareness
  • Sickle Cell
  • Domestic Violence services

Public Health commissioning responsibilities for Local Authorities

The New government's Health and Social Care Act includes a new duty on Local Authorities to promote public health.  This means the promotion of health for the local population of Kensington and Chelsea will be the responsibility of the Royal Borough.

Free resources available for World TB day events, 24 March

Throughout the UK, on Saturday 24 March, hundreds of individuals and organisations around the world will be holding TB awareness raising events to mark the day, in 1882, when Dr Robert Koch identified the bacteria that causes tuberculosis.

National charity TB Alert is making free resources available for community groups wanting to hold events.

New campaign for early detection of bowel cancer aims to reach over 55s

'Be Clear on Cancer' is the new national Dept of Health campaign to raise public awareness of the symptoms of bowel cancer and to encourage those with persistent symptoms to present promptly.

Although the great majority of people may not have bowel cancer, some may. By catching the cancer earlier it should be more treatable.

This forum is for anyone working for a voluntary orgaanisation in Kensington & Chelsea whose work aims to improve health or reduce health inequalities.

The Department of Health has asked Councils with Adult Social Services Responsibilities including RBKC to survey adult social services users and provide information to the NHS Information Centre (NHS IC) for health and social care.

Health Protection Agency - new HIV figures

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has released the annual HIV infection rate statistics.

In 2010, 91,500 people were living with HIV in the UK. One in four was undiagnosed and unaware that they have HIV.

Sir Nick Partridge, Chief Executive of Terrence Higgins Trust, said: ‘HIV rates in the UK remain dangerously high and to bring them down we all have to take responsibility for our sexual health. We can’t just rely on partners, or chance, to keep sex safe.’
