Energy costs have risen around 15% in recent months and lots of people will be struggling with their bills, but there is support available under certain circumstances.
Under the new Warm Homes Discount scheme introduced by the Government this year, certain people will receive a £120 refund from their energy company.
Anyone who receives the Guarantee Credit element of the Pension Credit should automatically receive the refund. Some energy companies are also giving it to a broader group including those on a low income with a disability or long-term illness, or those with children. Each energy company has different criteria – call the Healthy Homes helpline to see what support is available.
People over 60 are also eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment – paid each year by the Government to help older people with their heating costs. Most payments are made between November and December and should come automatically.
For more information on these schemes and advice about other ways residents can reduce their energy bills call Healthy Homes on 0808 202 6204.
