Best Value Guidance - What you should know

In September 2011, the government published the new Best Value Guidance which sets out clear expectations for councils when considering changing funding to local voluntary and community groups and small businesses.

The guidance does not supersede any parts of the renewed National Compact but commits to the principles as well as taking into consideration the measures of Community Right to Challenge contained within the Localism Bill.

The Best Value Guidance includes measures such as Authorities should seek to avoid passing on disproportionate reductions to the VCS and small businesses as a whole or giving at least 3 months notice when ending funding.

Best Value Authorities such as RBKC is under a general Duty of Best Value which means the council must consider overall value including economic, environmental and social value when looking at service provision.
