Health innovation projects share learning

On 9 May representatives from 11 local voluntary organisations came together to share learning from their 3-month innovation projects that were funded by NHS Kensington & Chelsea. 12 organisations received grants of up to £5,000 to develop a new idea, test a new way of working, conduct research, and so on.

Health Protection Agency - new HIV figures

The Health Protection Agency (HPA) has released the annual HIV infection rate statistics.

In 2010, 91,500 people were living with HIV in the UK. One in four was undiagnosed and unaware that they have HIV.

Sir Nick Partridge, Chief Executive of Terrence Higgins Trust, said: ‘HIV rates in the UK remain dangerously high and to bring them down we all have to take responsibility for our sexual health. We can’t just rely on partners, or chance, to keep sex safe.’

Understanding the new Health System

A useful 4 page briefing produced by NCVO, NAVCA and Regional Voice can help voluntary and community organisations understand the changes to the health system.

The briefing gives a simple overview of which organisations will be important at a local level in this new health agenda and advice on how to engage with and influence them to ensure that the concerns, expertise and experience of the voluntary and community sector are central to these changes.

The role of the voluntary and community sector in reducing health inequalities

If the council and the local NHS want to tackle entrenched behavioural issues that cause health related problems, tackle the wider determinants of health and promote wellbeing then working with the local sector will be key.

Working with NHS Staff

If you are delivering health improvement work locally, or you plan to, and you want to link up with staff in the NHS, please initially contact Lev Pedro at the Social Council, and we will help you make the appropriate link.

Due to changes currently taking place we are unable to publish a definitive list of NHS contacts.

NHS funding

No funding opportunities are currently available through the local NHS, but we will keep you informed via this website and our e-bulletins.

Please contact lev@kcsc.org.uk if you would like to be on our health email list.

NHS reforms

On 9 May 2011 we held a joint event with the Local Involvement Network which aimed to learn about and discuss how proposed changes to the NHS will affect the local voluntary and community sector.
