About Kensington & Chelsea Social Council

Kensington & Chelsea Social Council (Social Council) works to support locally focused voluntary and community organisations serving local residents.

We aim to develop a strong local sector voice to influence decision makers and encourage sector campaigning and lobbying to improve the quality of life of residents of Kensington and Chelsea.

We are a Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) and act as an umbrella body for voluntary and community organisations in Kensington and Chelsea.

Our history

Kensington & Chelsea Social Council was formed in April 2002 by the merger of Chelsea and Notting Hill Social Councils. Notting Hill Social Council was founded in the late 1950's in the aftermath of the social disturbances in the area, and Chelsea Social Council was established in 1968 to meet local needs in areas that now make up the south of the borough.

You can read more about our past on our 'Celebrating 50 Years' pages.

NAVCA Quality Mark

In 2009-2010 we provided direct support to 267 local organisations and groups.

In recognition of our work to support the local sector we were awarded a NAVCA Quality Award in February 2011.

The National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA) is a national umbrella body for the voluntary and community sector and achieving this award for local infrastructure organisations means we have met their rigorous standards for quality of service offered.

The award was subject to an external audit and is valid for three years.
